For many international buyers, the first question is simple: why are there so many classic Italian scooters in Vietnam? The answer goes back generations.
Classic Vespa and Lambretta scooters have been part of Vietnam's urban history for generations. Vespa began appearing in Vietnam during the 1950s and 1960s, particularly through French residents, traders and the growing commercial life of Saigon.
Lambretta followed the same cultural path. During the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, Italian scooters became familiar sights on the streets of South Vietnam, where they were associated with style, mobility and a distinctly European way of life.
These were not scooters imported to Vietnam yesterday for the purpose of export. A substantial vintage scooter culture had already existed here for decades before the international collector market began paying serious attention to Vietnamese machines.
Vespa and Lambretta became part of the country's automotive and cultural history long before today's global vintage scooter market.
The answer is not that the scooters are somehow less authentic. It is largely a matter of where the scooters are sourced, where the restoration work is carried out and the cost structure behind the work.
Vietnam developed a deep and long-standing ecosystem around vintage scooters. Old machines, spare parts, mechanical knowledge and experienced craftsmen have remained part of the local market for many years.
Scialla sources machines within Vietnam rather than buying already-restored scooters through expensive European or American collector markets. The restoration itself is also carried out here, allowing us to control the work directly instead of paying several layers of international intermediary, dealer and restoration margins.
That is one of the reasons a genuine vintage Italian scooter can sometimes be offered at a considerably more competitive price from Vietnam than a comparable machine purchased through a Western vintage-scooter dealer.
Fewer layers between the original machine and the final collector means more value stays with the scooter.
Competitive pricing should never mean compromising the identity of the machine.
Our restoration philosophy is simple: preserve the character and identity of the original scooter. We do not treat a vintage Vespa or Lambretta as a collection of interchangeable parts simply because two components happen to fit.
Original frames remain original frames. Original engine identities remain traceable. When structural work is required, the objective is to repair and preserve the existing machine, not to disguise one frame as another or combine unrelated identities to create a more attractive story.
We do not believe in "bitsa" restoration - mixing frames, engines, identities or major components from unrelated scooters simply to produce a finished-looking machine.
The result we are looking for is not merely a beautiful old scooter. It is a coherent vintage machine whose appearance, mechanical character and documented identity make sense together.
Buying from Vietnam can offer something very different from buying through a traditional collector market: access to a deep local vintage-scooter history, direct sourcing and restoration, and a more competitive overall cost — without giving up the Italian identity that makes these machines special.

What We Restore
Every restoration is approached as a complete scooter rather than a cosmetic repaint. We inspect the major systems of the machine and rebuild or replace components according to their condition and the intended specification.
Complete stripping, structural inspection, realignment where required, preparation and professional repainting.
Engine cleaning, inspection and rebuilding of critical internal components, clutch, gears and related systems.
Replacement and refurbishment of brake shoes, shocks, springs and other components required for safe operation.
Inspection and replacement of aged wiring, electrical components, cables, switches and related parts.
Seats, locks, cables, odometers, floor strips, rubber trims and other worn components are renewed where necessary.
Tires, rubber components, trim and finishing details are checked so the completed scooter feels cohesive from top to bottom.
Our Restoration Process
Our restoration process combines careful inspection, mechanical rebuilding and detailed finishing work. The exact work varies according to the condition, model and specification of each scooter.
The scooter is stripped down so the frame, engine and individual components can be inspected properly. Rubber, plastic, leather, aged trim and electrical components are removed before restoration work begins.
The bare frame is inspected for cracks, imperfections and structural problems. Where necessary, the frame is realigned before surface preparation and paintwork.
After preparation, the frame receives a primer coat followed by multiple layers of high-quality paint to achieve a clean, durable finish while respecting the character of the original scooter.
Engine castings are cleaned and inspected for cracks, damaged threads and bearing-surface tolerances before rebuilding begins.
Essential components such as pistons, rings, carburetors, bearings and clutch components are replaced or rebuilt according to their condition. Gears and the clutch assembly are carefully inspected during the rebuild.
Brakes, suspension, tires, cables, hoses, seats, locks and other worn components are renewed as required to bring the scooter back to a dependable mechanical standard.
Wiring and electrical components are checked before the scooter is progressively reassembled with its restored and replacement parts.
The completed scooter is inspected as a whole before being prepared for delivery to its new owner.
Authenticity Matters

Where available, the original frame and engine remain central to the restoration. Unique serial numbers provide a way to trace the identity and origin of the machine and help us preserve the history of each scooter.

Continuous Improvement
Restoration is an ongoing process of learning, inspection and improvement. We use workshop experience and customer feedback to refine the components and procedures used on our scooters.
One area we have recently focused on is fuel-tank quality. Our current tanks are sourced directly from Italy and receive primer and multiple layers of high-quality paint for improved durability.
We have also expanded our sourcing of key engine components from Italy, including pistons, cylinders, cylinder heads and crankshafts, with the aim of maintaining consistent engine performance and reliability.
